Carol Hansell is one of Canada’s best known experts in corporate governance. On Oct. 1, she officially leaves her spot as a partner with noted transaction firm Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP and opens the doors of Hansell LLP, which will be the first firm in Canada dedicated solely to providing advice on corporate governance issues — an issue that is always a feature of M&A transactions. The firm, which will be based in Toronto’s Brookfield Place, will employ not only legal experts, but also experts in other related fields, such as shareholder rights or securities regulation.
